Grasp Opportunity
I learned a valuable lesson today and its one that I hope to
keep learning for the rest of my life. Everyone wants to live their best life;
the man taking orders at the coffee shop, the woman who cleans the restrooms,
and the man rushing to meetings day after day. Everyone is trying to achieve
something great. And the means at which we achieve this greatness is different
for everyone; no two people travel the same path. My path is different than my
sister’s path and my sister’s path is different than my brothers.
I met Erica today, very pleasant. She dropped off catering
for a meeting and while she waited for her escort I took the opportunity to get
to know her a little better. While we were chatting, she told me she wanted to
be a nurse, and that pushing carts around the city was not her goal in life.
She also mentioned a two year old daughter, for whom I assumed she is the
primary caretaker. She said she was looking to work for a well known medical
center, and that she was looking to go to School to become an R.N.
Had I not taken the time to speak I would have never known.
I’m glad I spoke up; I feel newly inspired and that much more motivated to live
on purpose. I read in a book by Henriette Anne Klauser called Write It Down
Make It Happen; in the book she urges her readers not to live in the
mezzanine of life, but to take the stage front-and-center as an active
participant. So true! I had such an epiphany after reading that; and from that
day forward I choose to live my life front-and-center, with purpose. And I
thank God for Erica who gave me a refreshed motivation to continue.
It’s easy to get into zombie mode (living but not really), trudging
through life. I don’t want to live that way, and I encourage you not to live
that way either. It’s been said that not everyone get’s to choose their path in
life; and maybe that’s true; and may those of us who are fortunate enough to
have the opportunity to do so, not do so in vain. Let us not waste the blessing
of being able to choose where we want to be and what we want to accomplish in
life. There is someone out there, a child, a father, a mother who may not. If not for ourselves, let’s do it for those
who may not get the opportunity.
